Andrew Stones Left-Handed Book 1991 |
||||
In 1991 I made a journey to Australia. I wanted to resist any easy familiarity with the continent based on notions of shared or historic Britishness. Being right-handed, I decided to keep a journal using only my left hand, filling a page for each day of the visit. The act was also in memory of a grandmother who, with a pen in each hand, could simultaneously write two instances of her name, one forwards and one reversed, starting at opposite sides of a sheet of paper.
